M+F Health is proud to have worked on the Hear Me Now campaign to raise awareness of the challenges of prostate cancer amongst black men – who are twice as likely to get and to die from prostate cancer as white me.
The success of the campaign came from the development of powerful and compelling data communicated with precision, thought, and a thorough understanding of the policy environments.
The campaign was driven by a partnership of BME Cancer Communities, Cancer Black Care, Prostate Cancer UK and Janssen, highlighting the importance of earlier diagnosis with key decision makers. A comprehensive policy report, foreworded by David Lammy MP, highlighted the unmet needs of black men and made key recommendations to national policy makers, commissioners, local authorities and Clinical Commissioning Groups.
The campaign received wall-to-wall coverage, and local policy roundtable meetings resulted in campaign data sets being included in 8 out of 15 target local Joint Strategic Needs Assessments across the country, ensuring the inequalities experienced in prostate cancer were recognised and addressed by services.
